What is Diabulimia
Diabulimia is an eating disorder that you can only develop if you are a type 1 diabetic. Someone with diabulimia will purposefully restrict the intact of their insulin or neglect taking it all together in order to loose weight. Our human bodies need insulin to take the food we are eating and turn it into energy, eating food but not taking insulin for it is extremely detrimental to the human body. Some short term consequences to diabulimia include very low energy, muscle atrophy, severe dehydration, diabetic ketoacidosis etc. Some long term consequences include Peripheral Neuropathy, kidney disease, liver disease, heart disease, stoke, coma and death. The effects of diabulima are extremely damaging and in most cases the effects can be permanent. The mortality rate for Diabulimia is 34.8% which is extremely high for an eating disorder. This eating disorder does not get nearly enough awareness which can make it extremely difficult for someone suffering to come to terms with their disorder. Our goal is to make sure no one ever feels alone.
